Two years ago a boy called Jack Craugwell was in 6th class. His great grandfather tom “Jim” Finn came in and talked to us about his old schooldays in the old Cloontia school now called The Teach Ceol. He talked for forty minutes straight. We were so interested that we decided that we were going to re-enact some of the scenes Tom did when he is was our age over eighty years ago. We went to different location filming our five minute movie. When we were finished our movie we sent it into the FíS film project in Dublin. After a few months they sent us a letter telling us that we are one of the twenty four picked out of one hundred entries.
On the 6th of November 2013 3rd,4th,5th,6th and last year’s of Derrinabroc went up to Dublin by bus to the D.C.U to The Helix. When went to get our lunch and played with the clowns. We were soon called up to get into our seats in the hall. I was excited waiting for it to start and when Sinead Kennedy came out the crowd went crazy cheering. There was lots if awards. When our school was called for the history award I felt a bit nervous about going up on stage but when I got up there it wasn’t so bad. Sinead asked what part did I play and what bangin’ buttons was. They went through loads of different awards like comedy, action, horror and lots more. Then they came to the main award the Aillen McKeogh Award For Outstanding Achievement In Film Making. The winner also gets a camera worth over six hundred euro and six V.I.P tickets to The Voice Of Ireland live shows. Everyone went crazy banging their feet and chanting their schools name and then Eoghan McDermott came out to present the award. Then Sinead announced and the award goes to…………….. School Days Over. I couldn’t believe we actually won FíS. I ran up to the stage when we all got there Tom Finn came up and everyone saw the film we made. There was lots of photos. We were all delighted with our achievement.
When we got back to our school back there was a little home coming. When I got home I was really tired but I really enjoyed the day.
