Girls Final Report by 5th & 6th class

On Wednesday the 4th of June we Travelled Castlebar’s McHale Park to play Robeen in the division 5 Cumann  na mbunscoil Maigh eo girls final.

When we reached McHale Park we had our heads held high but still kind of nervous we got changed and headed out to the pitch  we got our picture taken and of we went to play the final. We lined out as followed 1. Michelle Forking 2. Elise Philips 3. Erin Philips 4. Ilana Phillips 5. Grainne Phillips subs Danielle Mc Donagh and Hazel Moriarty

The whistle was blown for the start and we were on top from the start from a 45 kicked by Ilana that just went under the crossbar for a goal. Robeen then came back with a stunning goal it was level one goal each. At half time it was 4-4 to 2-4 to us we were determent to keep fighting to the end. The second half than began with a brilliant goal by Erin. We were getting tired towards the end and Robeen were fighting hard but still didn’t score any goals cause of our unstoppable goal keeper Michelle saved three shots in a row! We  kept fighting with brilliant points from Elise and Grainne we kept on top then suddenly the final whistle blew. We had won! We were delighted with ourselves we had made history! The first time  to ever win in our schools history. The final score was 5-5 to 2-5.

When we got off the pitch we were called into the stand where we were presented with our trophies and medals.

Homecoming

After we had just won the final and togged in, we drove to Carracastle church. We were so happy that we celebrated our victory by beeping around our community by driving through Carracastle up to Derrinacartha, past Bockagh Hill then to Ballaghadereen and back through Cloontia and finally up to our school in Derrinabroc.  Coming through Cloontia, Evan Phillips lit a bonfire to greet our winning teams. We then headed back to the school where we got a big surprise that, there was pizza and chips waiting for us. We devoured our meal and went outside to play. The team then headed home after having one of the best days of their lives feeling as proud as ever.  By ERIN, Elise and Danielle
