Our school was built in 1987 and it is an amalgamation of Cloontia N.S and Derrinacartha N.S. Every Thursday a music teacher comes to teach the tin whistle and many different instruments. Every second year we perform a Christmas play and also partiapate in a irish play in kilmovee which is called Féile Dramaíochta and in 2012 we luckily got through to the Connaught’s in Connemara Galaway.
We recently had fundraising vintage run with 77 different cars, tractors and motorbikes participating. This fun event along with a raffle and auction on the day raised €4,100 for our school and we will probably be doing it in 2015.Andy Moran raised our active school flag and we cycled to school all that week and we still cycle when the weather is good.
We play Gaelic, Hurling, Soccer and Tag rugby. We have a basketball court, a football pitch and a P.E hall. Three years ago we got a skills wall we had to plaster a gable wall, concrete a big square on the ground and then we put three targets on the wall and marked four small squares on the ground and it payed off because we won the Cumann na mbunscol two teacher school county football champions for both boys and girls 2013.
We won the All Ireland FíS competition in 2013 for school days over. FíS stands for film in school and we got through to the finals in the Helix, DCU again this year and won an award for outstanding achievement in film making for storyboarding for setanta saves the day.
