Bockagh Hill

As part of  Active School’s Week in June 2013, the pupils of St. Colman’s along with their teachers climbed Bockagh Hill after cycling to it. Local men Pete Grady and Gerry Doherty lead the way. Pete explained the history of the Mass Rock there since Penal Laws and a cross was been erected by the locals to mark the Pope’s visit to Ireland in 1979. Thank you to Pete, Gerry and Sheelagh for a lovely day.

Just came across a lovely poem entitled Bockagh Hill by an American poet William Brendan McPhillips http://www.daypoems.net/poems/2447.html

This a picture of a family from on Bockagh Hill 1910http://ogradyspub.com/TNG/showmedia.php?mediaID=433

If anyone has anymore information on the poet, the poem or the Bockagh family picture please post a comment on this page.
