Uniform Policy 2014

This policy develops on our current school policy. It was written in consultation with the staff, parents and Board of Management of the St. Colman’s NS. A survey of the parents was carried during the third term 2014 in line with the circular 0063/2013. The Department of Education circular can be downloaded from this link http://www.education.ie/en/The-Department/Announcements/Reducing-Costs-to-Parents-School-Uniforms.html. The uniform was discussed at the Board of Management meetings before this new policy was ratified at the June BOM meeting.

The results of the survey

100% of parents who returned surveys wish to have a uniform.

86% of parents wish to have a generic school jumper with an iron-on/sew on crest.

100% of parents wish to have non branded tracksuit bottoms as part of the uniform.

With these results in mind here are the changes to the school uniform policy:

  • The school will be selling school crests at €2 so parents can buy a v neck navy school jumper from any shop and sew on or iron on the crest
  • No branded tracksuit bottoms or ones with logo are to be wore
  • Navy school pants or skirt or pinafore should be worn for special school occasions such as Confirmation, school photographer, school concerts, graduation mass, award ceremonies etc

School jumpers may be still ordered from Seamtrack if parents so wish for this year only 2014. Seamtrack will visit the school on June 20th to measure students and take orders for those who wish to purchase a jumper with the crest embroidered on it.                      Alternatively navy v neck school jumpers of any brand can be purchased from any store, locally Egan’s sell the Hunter jumper but they recommend that they are not tumbled dried to maintain original shape and quality.

Plain navy tracksuit bottoms (with no brand symbol) can be purchased from any store, locally Egan’s sell a fleece for 9/10 year for €14.50 and Telfon tracksuit bottom for €10 for a 9/10 year old.

The school crests will be available to buy from the school on the 28th and 29th of August, a text message will be sent out on that week to remind parents.

This policy will be ratified by the Board of Management on the 10th of June 2014.
